This can only end well

The OSN man, aka the cable guy, is here to fix us up with a few more TV-channels. At least that is the idea. This guy speaks mafi English (no English) and he has been on the phone with someone for a while now and I hear the word mushkil (problem) being repeated all too often.

If we end up with absolutely no TV channels at all, it's fine by me. It is my husband that will throw a tantrum :)

Have a lovely Monday everyone!

Life before Google

Imagine life before Google, or before internet for that matter?! Its crazy to think that our daughter will grow up with mobile phones, wi fi, internet, blogging, e-mail etc being the norm, not knowing what was before all that! It makes me feel privileged being the generation that got to witness these type of changes. I still remember the first time I searched for a book at the library with help of a computer, can you believe it?!

So what am I googling at the moment? The words "toddler" and "sleep" in combination with other words such as "refusing", "no naps" etc. Also keen on finding out more on "bilingualism", sine my daughter's pediatrician thinks it's "bad, VERY bad" (insert Lebanese accent here).

Another favourite is "real estate" and everything relating to it. It would be SO much easier if you did not have to worry about, pests, flood areas, city plans and all the rest!

New gear

My old laptop is now serving another deserving user. I was without a computer for a week and must admit that I missed it. You don't realize how much you use it until it is gone!

Here's my new friend that hubby brought home last weekend. Complete with a backlit keyboard and all. I was so impressed that I had to share it.

Instagram

Seems there are so many different networking sites to register for nowadays. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest - you name it. I downloaded the Instagram app on my iPhone ages ago but did not register until a few days ago. I do like how you can add filters to the otherwise quite plain photos. Still trying to work out what all you can do with it though.

Happy Thursday everyone! For us it is, because Thursday = weekend!

M for manual

This month I am taking my first e-course ever. For me e-courses are brilliant as there's not much by way of short courses for (expat) women over here.

The course I am taking is called Photo 101 an is taught by Nicole Hill-Gerulat at Nicoles Classes. I am hoping that this course will give me a better understanding of my DSLR camera and I think that in the first week if the course it already has given me plenty of new knowledge! Previously I used to shoot in Av or Tv mode (semimanual), but during the course we are asked to take the step to fully manual.

I just need to get on with the homework though, I am a bit behind since I spent the first week of the course in Turkey...

There is an app for that!

I've only had my iPhone for a few months and I have to admit that I am hooked! More so than the phone, it's the apps that I cannot live without!

There seems to be an app for everything; internet banking, currency exchange and even an app that helps you find where it was that you parked your car!

Blogger announced a few days ago that they have launched a new app iOS users (was there ever an old one?) and I downloaded it straight away!

So right now I am writing from the Abu Dhabi airport (uncomfortable chairs), just because I can. I am on my way back to Saudi Arabia after a 10 holiday, but more on that in a later post!

Adaptation

I was clever enough to travel to Finland with loads of luggage, but I did not think of packing an adapter. Most of my electronic gadgets have been bought outside Finland and it turns out that finding an adapter that converts an Australian plug to a Finnish one is impossible to fin in the shops. It wasn't until I had exhausted the laptop as well as the camera battery that I realised that these things can be found online... Now I'm waiting for this to be delivered and then I'll be able to post more pics again!!!

To i or not to i

I do not own a single Apple gadget, not even an iPod. Somehow I manage to get by with day to day things regardless of what Steve Jobs and his people come up with.

I'm not keen on the iPhone either, for a few reasons: the main reason is that I think it's too big. I carry a plethora of items* in my handbag so I need things like wallets and phones to be as compact as possible! I also know that the shiny screen will be shiny no more once I have put that phone against my cheek. What I do like about the iPhone are all the functionalities in it, but I guess that all depends on the apps that you download, so does it really matter which phone you have?

I have now set my eyes on the newest iPhone 4, the white one. I have to admit that the colour is the only reason i am even contemplating getting the iPhone, which is not a very valid reason is it? The fact remains though, that I have had my current (very basic Nokia) for nearly three years. So I feel that an upgrade is way overdue.

Any comments from iPhone as well as non-iPhone owners would be hugely appreciated!

*I am not one of the worst though, a friend of mine carries around a mini pharmacy everywhere she goes!

Happiness is... unexpected gifts

I'm so excited! Yesterday my husband came home with a small brown cardboard box. The box was addressed to him, but he asked me to open it. I assumed it was some sort if computer related gizmo, but I was wondering why he would ask me to open it.So when I finally got the box opened it took a while before the coin dropped, I was looking at an elegant black box with the letters ghd on it.

I have been longing for a ghd straightener for quite some time, I've also come close to buying it a couple of times, but decided against it because of the 200+ dollar price tag. My husband was well aware of my infatuation with this little gadget, but I would never have thought that he would buy it for me.

Now I need to rethink the storage in my bathroom, because... well because. Only in an Aquarius household will the acquisition of one little appliance cause the redesign of the storage of one entire room!
