I heart green

I've always loved colour and for a long time the favourite was blue. It still is, although it was nearly replaced by white. Right now it's all about the colour green. The reason for this is the fact that the sofas and chairs in our living room is green. When I saw it, I immediately thought of reupholstering it. But then I saw the selection of the fabrics and colours that were on offer and I instantly changed my mind. There's nothing like a bunch of fabric samples in various shades of mustard yellow to make you start loving green!

But what goes with green? If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to ጮምመንት! In the meanwhile I'll be browsing the internet and my photo archives for inspiration.

Weekend

The Beach

I am probably not the only one who would vote for longer weekends. Two days are just not enough, especially when you have number of things that you need to get done. All this while coughing away in a manner that would freak out the toughest chain smoker! Thanks for all the suggestions on various home remedies by the way. In the end I had to admit defeat so I did go and see the doctor this morning...

I did get stuff done, so I have to write a list (got to love lists):
- take computer screen to recycling station
- post that package that I meant to send ages ago
- return books to library
- clean the balcony floor

Did manage to catch up with some friends as well, so it was a very efficient weekend in many ways! I hope you all had a good weekend too!

Not so green living

I know air conditioning is probably one of the worst energy wasters in the home. And normally I will do anything to avoid turning it on. I find the cool air a bit too cold an I tend to get a soar throat whenever it's on for a longer period of time. My husband on the other hand, will keep it on day or night.

But when it is 25 degrees at 11pm at night and the humidity sits at 88%, there is only one thing you can do to stop your apartment from feeling like a sauna. So you have to turn the air conditioning on. It is not always easy being green and sometimes it is impossible.

Living green

This week is the national recycling week. I would love to do my part, but sometimes it`s a bit hard. I`ll tell you why.

For starters, our building does not have a recycling bin. Which means that we either have to throw recyclable material in the usual bin or use the neighbours recycling bin. You can probably guess which option I have chosen. In addition to that, there`s no incentive to recycle bottles or soda cans. Back home you get paid (albeit a very minute amount) for every bottle that you bring back. No such system exists here, except for the state of South Australia. But somehow that idea did not take in other parts of the country...

But plenty of people in my area are doing their part. So far this year on the Gold Coast more than 46 000 tonnes of waste has been recycled. That`s a lot more than I would have thought!

Tell me dear friends, how do you try to be more green?
